Increasing pollution, depleting natural resource and a plenty of other reasons have made people look into eco friendly alternatives of transportation. This is one of the reasons cycling needs to be promoted as a popular mode of transportation. Healthy lifestyle and fitness is another reason cycling has to be promoted. A cycle ride to celebrate Children’s Day was organised for the students of Don Bosco School, Guwahati on 14th November. More than 60 students of the school from 5th to 12th standard participated in the ride that covered a distance of approximately 5 kms around the area.
The ride was followed by an interactive session cum open quiz on Road Safety and Traffic rules.
Father Sebastian Mathew, principal of Don Bosco School said, “Childrens are the best ambassadors of healthy practices and this need to be inculcated early on in their lives”.
“Everyone should be responsible and accountable towards mother nature hence needs to practice & promote actions to protect for building a better future.” Said Sabah Ahmed, a senior faculty of the school and coordinator of the event.
The program was a first of its kind initiative by an institution organised and managed by Guwahati Active Mobility Forum along with Pedal for a Change and the Bicycle Mayor of Guwahati. Arshel Akhter the Bicycle Mayor of Guwahati administered the pledge for road safety and healthy mobility practices by obeying traffic rules and respecting fellow commuters amongst the students.
